International community fair 2011

Studio Jean was a part of the International community fair in the Atrium of The Hague. A busy day! We displayed paintings, prints, photo's of art work and pupils and even a short film. Here is a short impression of our day at the Atrium... and click here to watch our short film made by Thexpat.tv.

Hoe ken je de Studio?

"Van al zo lang geleden."

Wanneer ben je begonnen met de lessen?

"In 2001 ongeveer."

Wat is je favorite medium?

"Olieverf"

Wie is je favorite kunstenaar of kunstenares?

"Rothko"

Wat is de laatste expositie waar je naar toe bent geweest?

"Dat van Henk Helmantel."

Kun je wat vertellen over je eigen kunstwerk?

"Het is een stilleven en de techniek (het kijken) inspireerde mij tot het maken van zo een schilderij."

Waarom koos je voor het medium olieverf?

"Omdat het een uitdaging is."

Wat heb je van dit project geleerd?

"Het observeren en vooral kijken en nog eens kijken."

Paul White

Today we interview Paul White, one of our pupils in the Studio.

How do you know about the Studio, Paul?

"I got to know about it via a friend."

When did you start lessons here?

"I started my classes in January 2010."

What is your favourite medium?

"That would have to be pastels."

Who is your favourite artist?

"Jean :-) "

What is the last exhibition you went to and what did you think of it?

"Jean's exhibition at the American Womens Club. Thought it was excellent."

Can you tell us something about your piece of art and what inspired you to make it?

"Jean painted a picture of Morgan Freeman which I liked very much and I thought I would like to try something similar with light and dark."

Why did you choose this medium?

"Because so far it's the only medium I've tried."

Anything else you want to add?

"This was the first time I've painted a portrait without the help of grid lines - Jean bullied me in to it! I also leant a lot about applying light and dark."

Waar ken je de Studio van?

"Vroeger kocht ik verf bij Jean toen ze nog een winkel had en zag haar leerlingen achter in de ruimte geconcentreerd aan het werk."

Wanneer ben je begonnen bij Jean?

"In Januari 2010."

Wat is je favorite medium?

"Olieverf"

Wie is je favorite kunstenaar of kunstenares?

"Lucian Freud"

Wat is de laatste expositie die je bezocht hebt?

"De zomertentoonstelling van amateurs in het gemeente museum."

Kun je wat vertellen over jouw eigen kunstwerk?

"Ik houd van bloemen, maar ik heb het vooral geschilderd om de kleuren."

Waarom heb je gekozen voor dit medium?

"Olieverf werkt pretting, zeker voor het vervagen van de achtergrond."

Wat heb je van dit project geleerd?

"Kleuren mengen, vervangen van lijnen dus weer meer mogelijkheden die er met olieverf zijn."

Robyn Bellamy

How do you know about Studio Jean?
"I reseached art courses on the internet."

When did you start the classes?
"Just last week."

What is your favourite medium?
"I like Acrylic"

Who is your favourite artist?
"Monet."

What was the last exhibition you went to and what did you think of it?
"The Kroller Muller."

Can you tell us something about your piece of art and what inspired you to make it?
"This still life was given to me by Jean so that she could see my level and show me new techniques, and I really injoyed doing it."
